Chanting is one of the most ancient practices of yoga, tracing its roots back more than 5,000 years to a time when yoga was an oral wisdom tradition based mostly in meditation and in the art of exploring, realizing, and honoring the full expression of consciousness.
We incorporate chanting in many of our classes as a way of remembering these roots of yoga and as part of a multidimensional practice that can include heartfelt devotion (also called bhakti) as a doorway into meditation.
Nobody is required to sing, and we offer the words and translations here for those who are interested in this aspect of traditional practice. Chanting cards with the words and translations are also provided in the studio.
